The In-Machine Unit (IMU) is a small electronic device installed in each slot machine intended to house the SMART Gaming Support System.
The main board has been designed to support all current slot machine models and manufacturers on the market. The IMU can be mounted and installed in any location within the slot machine. To connect the IMU to the slot machine, a machine specific interface board and an interface cabling system is used. In addition, the IMU must be connected to the main power inlet of the slot machine using a small power supply unit.
A machine specific code is assigned to each IMU for each slot machine intended to use the SMART Gaming Support System. The same code will be programmed into a corresponding RF ID card during SMART instillation. In many cases, the code will be the casino’s assigned slot machine number.
When installed, powered up and not in use the IMU will remain in a sleep mode and it will ignore any lights or button pressed on the machine or on a nearby s-PAD. When a player scans the RF ID card on a specific machine and the correct identification code is transferred to the IMU, the system will start up. The IMU will connect to the s-PAD through the secure wireless connection and an update of the machine’s button-light status will be sent to the s-PAD.
During play, the IMU is the interface between the machine and the s-PAD. The IMU will receive all the button inputs from the s-PAD and send them to the machine, and IMU will also receive the button-light inputs from the machine and send them to the s-PAD.
When the player decides to change machines, the s-PAD will send a signal to the IMU to disconnect. The IMU will then reset and go into a sleep mode until the next successful connection.
As an added security feature, the IMU will monitor the connection to the s-PAD; if the system has been inactive for more then two minutes it will automatically disconnect and go back into a sleep mode until the next successful connection.
