I/O Board System

The SMART Gaming Support System I/O board (Input/Output board) is a small electronic board designed to mount directly onto the In-Machine Unit. Unlike the IMUs, the I/O boards are specifically designed for the machine model and manufacturer that will use the SMART System. In some cases, boards may be interchangeable between machine models and/or manufacturers.

In addition to being a communication device, the I/O board is designed to be a protective buffer between the slot machine and the SMART System. By using opto-isolating technology the IMU and slot machine communicate using light signals that completely isolate the SMART Gaming Support System from the slot machine. This isolation method prevents any damaging electronic signals from transferring between the two systems.

The I/O board also acts as the translator. It takes all information from the slot machine and translates it into a universal language that the IMU can understand and vice versa.

When mounted on the IMU, the I/O board becomes a part of the complete IMU that is installed in the slot machine. The I/O board is then physically connected to the slot machine with an interface cable, or in some cases an interface cabling system.

If the In-Machine Unit need to be moved to another machine the casino technician can remove the I/O board and replace it with a new board designed for the new machine.
